DPS907 notes – Tue Sep 2

Special session…

For students who do not have ASP.NET MVC experience.

.

Did you complete your ASP.NET web apps course in 2012 or earlier?

If yes, then you learned the “web forms” version of ASP.NET.

This semester’s web services pro option course uses the ASP.NET Web API framework, which is based on ASP.NET MVC. As someone who learned “web forms”, the “MVC” technology is very different. In fact, it’s different enough that your previous “web forms” knowledge is obsolete and not useful.

As a result, we have scheduled a special “getting started” class, to help you learn the important parts of the ASP.NET MVC technology. Here are the details:

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
11:40am (our normally-scheduled class time)
SEQ Building room S2119
Hosted by Marie Karimizadeh, and Peter McIntyre
Getting Started with ASP.NET MVC for Web Forms Programmmers

You are invited – encouraged – to attend and participate. (I strongly urge and recommend your participation – it’s vital for your success in the course). When the full class meets for the first time on Thursday September 4, we will begin covering the web services topics, using ASP.NET MVC technology. You must get up to speed as soon as possible with this technology.

Please plan to arrive at least ten minutes before the session begins, so that you can start a lab computer and login to the desktop.
