BTI420 Graded Work – Winter 2016

The following lists the graded work for BTI420, for the Winter 2016 term.

Please note that the list of graded work may change, and that it is your responsibility to know the current list of graded work.

Tests – approximately twelve (12) in total:

  • Every week, beginning in Week 2
  • Hand-written, mostly short-answer questions, and all will total 50% of your final course grade
  • If you miss a specific test, for whatever reason, your grade will be zero (0) on that specific test
  • To determine the final grade in the course, we’ll discard two tests with the lowest marks

Assignments (small-value):

  • There will be six (6) of these, before study week, and all will total 22% of your final course grade
  • Each small-value assignment is done in-class (if there’s time) or on your own time
  • Links to these assignments will be on the course notes page
  • If you do not submit an assignment, or if it is late, your grade will be zero (0) on that assignment
  • To determine the final grade in the course, we’ll use the best five (5) assignment marks

Assignments (large-value):

  • There will be three (3) of these, after study week, and all will total 28% of your final course grade
  • Links to these assignments will be on the course notes page
  • If you do not submit an assignment, or if it is late, your grade will be zero (0) on that assignment

Summary of the information above:

  • Tests – 50%
  • Assignments – 50%

This course does not have a final exam during exam week.

Due date extensions?

I don’t do due date extensions for assignments, for a number of reasons, including the following:

They cause problems for other work that follows an assignment, because it leaves less time to complete the next work.

They take your attention away from new topics in this course. You’re less receptive – or will ignore – new topics that follow the ones tested on the assignment.

A due date extension is disrespectful to other students in the course, because it tells them that the work they did to meet the due date doesn’t have value.

Finally a due date extension is disrespectful to other teachers and their courses, because it takes your attention away from their coursework while you are working on my coursework.

So, no due date extensions.
