Topic coverage in today’s lecture

Beginning with today’s lecture, and in the four lectures that follow, we will present a wide range of topics in ASP.NET Web Forms development. These topics will help you learn more about topics we covered in the first half of the course, and cover new ground. In addition, the topics are designed to complement your work on the course’s programming assignment.

The following is a sequenced list of topics that are contemplated:

  • ASP.NET Application Services (Membership, Roles, Profiles)
  • Principles of a Web CMS
  • Module overview – blog, web pages, wiki, media store/library
  • Entity design (and making changes to the design during the life of the project)
  • Modular ASP.NET Web Forms building blocks – master pages, user controls
  • Navigation, site map, security trimming
  • Media/attachment handling
  • ASP.NET Routing
  • Rich text editing
  • Customizing the appearance of familiar data display controls (like GridView, DetailsView, etc.)
  • Template-driven data display controls (like ListView, FormView, etc.)
  • Appropriate use of Ajax in your assignment

.

Today, we’ll attempt to cover the first three on the list.
